Florida Clinic Owner Gets 91 Months for Fraud

May 7, 2019

A federal judge sentenced a Florida medical clinic owner to 91 months in prison for her role in a scheme that prosecutors alleged bilked the government out of $2.5 million in phony prescriptions and home care referrals.

As part of a plea bargain, Juliette Anais Tamayo of Miami’s Sunshine Medicare Care Group will also have to repay the money in restitution. She admitted that she took kickbacks from patient recruiters and several area home health agencies in exchange for phony prescriptions for home health services to her clinic’s patients.

Tamayo admitted she gave a cut to doctors at Sunshine to get them to write more bogus scrips.
