Texas Man Charged With Using Bitcoin to Peddle Fentanyl

June 7, 2019

The U.S. Attorney for the Northern District of Texas announced the indictment of a dark web drug vendor Sean Shaughnessy of the Dallas Fort Worth area for using Bitcoin’s apparent anonymity to sell fentanyl online.

Shaughnessy allegedly sold fentanyl and fentanyl analogues over the dark web.  His buyers purchased the fentanyl and fentanyl analogues, which was shipped to their addresses, using cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin, the indictment alleges.

The charges are the part of Operation Dark Gold, a nationwide undercover operation targeting vendors using the darknet.
