J&J Subsidiary Gains FDA Clearance for Surgicel Applicators

J&J’s subsidiary Ethicon has earned 510(k) clearance for its Vistaseal open and laparoscopic dual applicators for administering a hemostatic agent.

The 35-centimeter and 45-centimeter airless spray devices release Grifol’s hemostatic agent Surgicel, which controls bleeding across broad surfaces.

Surgicel is used to control capillary, venous and small arterial hemorrhage when other techniques cannot be used or fail to work effectively.
