PhRMA, AARP Exchange Fire Over Drug Rebate Proposals

June 21, 2019

PhRMA and AARP are crossing swords over the Trump Administration’s proposed rule to require prescription drug rebates directly to customers at the pharmacy counter.

AARP has come out against the proposed rule, but PhRMA says it’s the best way to lower spiraling drug costs. PhRMA recently published a push-poll that claimed AARP was at odds with its own members over the rebate questions.

“AARP continues to oppose the rebate rule while receiving hundreds of millions of dollars in revenue from insurance companies every year. As the drug pricing debate moves forward it is important that people understand who AARP is representing in these discussions,” PhRMA said.

AARP responded by reporting PhRMA to the umbrella trade association for polling services, claiming the poll was spurious.
