Pennsylvania Physician Indicted in Insys Probe

July 5, 2019

A Pennsylvania doctor was indicted on charges that he took $140,000 in kickbacks from Insys Therapeutics to peddle opioids.

Kenneth Sun of Easton is charged with one count of conspiracy to defraud the U.S. and four counts of receiving kickbacks. Federal prosecutors allege that he took cash “honoraria” to peddle Insys’ Subsys (fentanyl) in exchange for prescribing more than 28 million micrograms of the drug in Pennsylvania and New Jersey.

Authorities also allege that Sun bilked Medicare out of nearly $850,000 in payments for needless prescriptions.
