J&J Recalls Acne Mask and Activator Over Risks of Eye Damage

July 17, 2019

Australia’s Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA) announced that J&J is recalling its Neutrogena Visibly Clear Light Therapy Acne Mask and Activator and taking the product off the market.

The reusable non-sterile device is meant for treating mild to moderate facial acne at home using a face mask, an attached activator and LEDs that deliver red and blue light.

The TGA said that a small group of “potentially susceptible” people may receive retinal damage from repeated exposure to the device’s LEDs. The damage could be permanent and may accelerate the impairment or loss of peripheral vision.
