MedTronic Launches Diseased Vein Closure System

Medtronic’s VenaSeal Closure System, a minimally invasive procedure that closes up diseased veins in chronic venous disease (CVD) patients, is now available in India.

The company said CVD, which causes swelling and skin changes and involves improper functioning of the leg’s vein valves, affects more than 190 million people globally.

The device applies a medical adhesive to close the diseased vein, using ultrasound to guide a catheter through the leg to the diseased area where it is then applied. Following administration, the vein is closed manually.
