Medtronic Faces Lawsuit Over Disability Discrimination

July 30, 2019

The U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) is suing Medtronic over the alleged illegal termination of an employee at its South Carolina plant.

“Medtronic…violated federal law when it terminated April Jackson, a temporary employee, from its Greenwood, S.C., facility because of her disability-related absences,” the commission said.

Jackson, who was born with one kidney and an under-formed bladder, worked at the devicemaker’s Greenwood site and missed several shifts over health issues caused by her disabilities. Despite presenting a doctor’s note after her absences, the manufacturer fired her, claiming she violated the attendance policy, the EEOC claimed.
