Endo Announces $10 Million Settlement in Ohio Opioid Cases

August 23, 2019

Endo Pharmaceuticals has agreed to pay $10 million to settle a bellwether opioid lawsuit by two Ohio counties.

If finalized, the settlement would resolve Cuyahoga and Summit county cases against the drugmaker and many of its subsidiaries. The counties alleged that the drugmaker made thousands of payments to physicians nationwide, “ostensibly for activities including participating on speakers’ bureaus, providing consulting services, assisting in post-marketing safety surveillance and other services” to deceitfully promote opioid use.

As part of the deal, the company would also provide the counties with up to $1 million worth of its Vasostrict (vasopressin) and Adrenalin (epinephrine) products at no charge. The settlement includes no admission of wrongdoing by any of Endo’s entities, the drugmaker noted.

Other prominent defendants in the suit, including Purdue, Teva and Johnson & Johnson, are still scheduled to begin trial on Oct. 21.
