J&J Loses First Civil Case on Opioid Crisis

In a landmark ruling, a district judge in Oklahoma ordered Johnson and Johnson and its subsidiary Janssen to pay $572 million to the state for its role in the opioid epidemic.

The ruling — the first in a civil trial related to the opioid crisis — will impact thousands of others across the country.

The Cleveland County District Court ruled that the state of Oklahoma “met its burden” in proving that J&J’s misleading marketing and promotion of opioids caused the state’s incurred costs during the epidemic.
