DEA Proposes Controlling Norfentanyl as Schedule II Controlled Substance

The Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) is proposing to list norfentanyl used in the illicit manufacture of fentanyl as a Schedule II controlled substance.

The agency found that the substance meets three criteria to be designated an “immediate precursor,” meaning that it can be considered a Schedule II controlled substance.

The DEA is seeking public comment from legitimate industries that use the substance and the potential burden the proposed regulatory controls may have on their activities.
