FDA Seeks Information on Abuse-Deterrent CNS Stimulants

The FDA has created a docket on abuse-deterrent formulas of central nervous system (CNS) stimulants and is seeking public comments.

The agency wants to know more about the potential benefits, harms and history of use of the stimulants commonly used to treat ADHD, and if abuse-deterrent formulas could reduce prescription stimulant abuse.

Currently marketed CNS stimulants are made primarily of amphetamine salts and related compounds like methylphenidate and methamphetamine, to treat ADHD and sometimes, narcolepsy.
