Opioid Strike Force Charges 13 Individuals for Operating Pill Mills

October 4, 2019

The Justice Department announced another coordinated action in five Appalachian federal districts that led to charges against 13 individuals, including 11 physicians, for over prescription of opioids through “pill mill” clinics, which resulted in the distribution of over 17 million pills.

The enforcement actions were the result of a multi-state operation by the Appalachian Regional Prescription Opioid Strike Force.

In April, the strike force brought charges against 60 defendants, including 53 medical professionals, in 11 federal districts. So far, those charges have led to guilty pleas by nine medical professionals, including seven physicians.
