MHRA Issues Warning on Anesthetic Face Masks

October 8, 2019

Intersurgical’s Economy 22F anesthetic face masks may pose risks of leaks or disconnection that could lead to insufficient oxygenation and serious injury without medical action, the UK’s Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) has warned.

The agency advised healthcare professionals to check their stocks for affected facemasks and inspect the connection between their tapers and mating devices before use. The response form in the field safety notice should be completed and sent to the company even if a provider has no affected devices in stock, MHRA said.

“If you identify any problems with these devices, contact the manufacturer to arrange return and replacement of the devices,” the agency advised.
