White House Non-Committal on Nominating Stephen Hahn as FDA Commissioner

October 14, 2019

Reports that the Trump administration will nominate MD Anderson Cancer Center oncologist Stephen Hahn to lead the FDA went unconfirmed by the White House.

The potential nominee reportedly met with the president early in September and is now being vetted prior to his name being sent to the Senate for approval.

Hahn has served as a professor, researcher, clinician and administrative head, and he still practices as a radiation oncologist. He chaired the University of Pennsylvania’s Department of Radiation Oncology from 2005 until 2015, when he moved to MD Anderson in Houston, where is now chief medical executive.
