Drug Importation is Coming, Trump Said

President Trump hinted that a drug importation proposal is coming soon from HHS, during a speech in Florida on an executive order aimed at improving Medicare.

“We will soon allow the safe and legal importation of prescription drugs from other countries including the country of Canada,” he said. “In a little while, your governor is going to be able to go out and negotiate ‘til his heart’s content.”

In other countries, drug prices can be 50 to 60 percent lower in some cases for “the exact same pill, from the exact same factory, from the exact same company,” despite the U.S. footing the research and development bills, Trump said.
