J&J Pays Out Over $117 Million in Pelvic Mesh Lawsuit

October 18, 2019

Johnson & Johnson has agreed to shell out $116.9 million to settle allegations that it deceitfully marketed its transvaginal surgical mesh products to 41 states and the nation’s capital.

According to Ohio Attorney General Dave Yost, the company misrepresented the devices’ safety and effectiveness and neglected to adequately state their associated risks. J&J “didn’t paint a clear picture of the device’s medical risks, preventing patients from making well-informed decisions,” he said.

In addition to the payout, J&J is required to fully disclose the devices’ risks and place accurate information on promotional material and the “information for use” section of package inserts.
