WHO Prequalifies Antiparasitic Pyrimethamine as API

The World Health Organization has prequalified Macleods Pharmaceuticals’ pyrimethamine as an active pharmaceutical ingredient for finished drug products.

A prequalification consists of an assessment of the API master file and an evaluation of the manufacturing site to verify compliance with good manufacturing practices.

Pyrimethamine helps prevent the growth and reproduction of parasites in the body, and is commonly used to treat and prevent certain types of malaria and to treat toxoplasmosis, an infection caused by the Toxoplasma gondii parasite.
