HHS to Support Development of Infection Diagnostic Technology

November 14, 2019

The Department of Health and Human Services is putting its weight behind the development of novel diagnostics designed to tell the difference between bacterial and viral infections.

The technology, which analyzes gene expression patterns in a patient’s immune system to differentiate between bacterial and viral infections and determine their severity in minutes, is receiving “advanced development support” from the department.

The HHS’ Biomedical Advanced Research and Development Authority will provide support under a 14-month, $6 million contract, which may be extended to almost $65 million through 2027.
