Purdue Pharma Gets Six-Month Shield From Opioid Litigation

November 19, 2019

Purdue Pharma was granted a six-month shield from opioid litigation to allow the company to continue settlement negotiations.

In a ruling, Judge Robert Drain of the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Southern District of New York halted all litigation against the company until April 8, 2020.

The judge previously gave the company one month to convince states that have not agreed to its proposed $10 billion settlement to go along with the longer injunction.

Purdue filed for bankruptcy in the Southern District of New York on Sept. 15 as a part of its $10 billion settlement with 24 states and five U.S. territories over its role in the opioid crisis.
