Oklahoma Judge Reduces J&J Opioid Order by $107 Million

An Oklahoma judge reduced by $107 million the amount Johnson & Johnson must pay for its role in the state’s opioid crisis following a “miscalculation.”

District Judge Thad Balkman admitted that he miscalculated how much it would cost to develop a program for babies born addicted to opioids. The program, which he originally understood would cost $107 million, would instead cost an estimated $107,000.

Balkman originally ordered J&J and its subsidiary Janssen to pay $572 million to the state for its role in the opioid epidemic. J&J will now pay $465 million.
