Fujifilm Plans to Buy Hitachi Healthcare’s Diagnostic Imaging Business

Fujifilm plans to expand into the medical device industry with a proposed purchase of Hitachi Healthcare’s diagnostic imaging line, which develops ultrasound, CT and MR devices.

The $1.56 billion deal is expected to close in July 2020 if it is agreed upon by both companies, and will further efforts by Fujifilm to expand into the medical device industry.

If the acquisition goes through, Fujifilm will use Hitachi’s image processing and AI technologies to develop AI-based imaging solutions for hospitals and clinics.
