GE Issues UK Safety Notice for Telemetry System

The central monitoring station and bedside monitor for GE’s ApexPro telemetry server may not  initiate alarms for certain events, the company warned in a field safety notice.

Five hardware platforms for the telemetry system may cause the central monitoring station or the bedside monitor not to provide visual or audible alarms for ECG failures, lead monitoring or SpO2 monitoring, the company said.

GE said patients may continue to be monitored if specific steps are taken to reduce the risks and it urged users to sign up for needed software or hardware upgrades.
