FDA Flags Another Record Year for Generic Approvals

FDA Commissioner Stephen Hahn announced that the FDA has seen yet another record-breaking year of generic drug approvals.

The agency approved 1,171 generics in fiscal 2019, up by 20 percent from 971 in fiscal 2018. The FDA has seen a steady increase in generic approvals since fiscal 2014 when it approved 500 products.

Hahn also announced the agency’s 98^th first generic approval this year, a copycat version of Bristol-Myers Squibb and Pfizer’s anticoagulant Eliquis (apixaban).
