House Republicans Revive Probe of Top Opioid Makers

January 21, 2020

Republicans on the House Energy and Commerce Committee revived their investigation into the role three drugmakers played in the opioid crisis, pressing Insys, Mallinckrodt and Purdue Pharma for more details.

In separate letters, the lawmakers grilled Insys on its alleged kickback scheme for sublingual fentanyl spray Subsys, Mallinckrodt on its monitoring of opioid sales and Purdue Pharma on the safety and effectiveness of long-term Oxycontin use.

Ranking member Greg Walden (R-Ore.), oversight and investigations subcommittee ranking member Brett Guthrie (R-Ky.) and Rep. Morgan Griffith (R-Va.) previously launched an investigation into the three companies in August 2018 as part of a probe of supply-chain breakdowns.
