Insys Therapeutics’ Ex-Vice President Sentenced to 33 Months in Prison

January 23, 2020

Michael Gurry, a former vice president of Insys Therapeutics, was sentenced to 33 months in prison for his involvement in a bribery scheme that pushed the company’s addictive fentanyl-based medication.

Gurry and four other Insys executives were convicted in May 2019 of racketeering conspiracy. The ex-vice president will also have to pay approximately $3.6 million in forfeiture and spend three years under supervised release following his prison term.

According to the Department of Justice, the Insys executives bribed doctors to prescribe the company’s addictive fentanyl-based medication, often to patients who didn’t need it.
