NICE Recommends Wireless Overactive Bladder Treatment

February 18, 2020

The UK’s National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) has given the thumbs up for National Health Service coverage of Axonics’ rechargeable sacral nerve stimulation system for treating overactive bladder.

The implanted device is inserted under the skin in the upper buttock and stimulates a patient’s sacral nerve with an electric current to control the bladder, behaving like a pacemaker.

The system includes a handheld remote control that toggles stimulation, adjusts amplitude and shows the battery charge. Recharging is done using a wireless device placed over the implant.
