Abbott Grabs CE Mark for Remotely Monitored Defibrillators

Abbott earned CE Mark certification for its Gallant implantable cardioverter defibrillator (ICD) and cardiac resynchronization therapy defibrillator (CRT-D) devices.

The Gallant devices link to a secure smartphone app to facilitate communication between patients and their doctors, allowing for remote monitoring and earlier interventions. They also feature longer battery life and compatibility with MRI scans.

Using the devices, “physicians can monitor their patients remotely, allowing for identification of asymptomatic episodes as well as patient-triggered transmissions,” the company said.
