CDER Launches Program to Tackle Controlled Substance Abuse
February 20, 2020
CDER has launched a Controlled Substances Program (CSP) to help develop new policies and programs to encourage “appropriate access” to scheduled drugs.
Among other initiatives, the program will unveil an “opioid data warehouse” in March, which will gather large amounts of data to identify trends of abuse and new developments in the opioid crisis. The data warehouse will also be used to support regulatory changes, CDER said.
CSP staff will also respond to the emerging trend of overdose deaths from stimulant drug use and will contribute to a draft guidance on medication-assisted treatment for cocaine/methamphetamine use disorder.
