FDA Approves Three Drugs Through Rx-to-OTC Switch Process

The FDA approved three drugs for over-the-counter use through its prescription (Rx)-to-OTC switch process.

The agency approved GlaxoSmithKline’s Voltaren Arthritis Pain (diclofenac sodium topical gel, 1 percent) to temporarily relieve arthritis pain.

The agency also approved Alcon’s Pataday Twice Daily Relief (olopatadine HCl ophthalmic solution/drops, 0.1 percent), and Pataday Once Daily Relief (olopatadine HCl ophthalmic solution/drops, 0.2 percent) to temporarily relieve itchy and red eyes due to pollen, ragweed, grass, animal hair or dander.
