CDC Issues New Coronavirus Test Reagents

Some laboratories reported experiencing problems with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC)’s COVID-19 test kit reagents and the CDC has promised replacements to resolve the problem.

“Some of the states identified some inconclusive laboratory results [during trial tests]. We’re working closely with them to correct the issues,” said Nancy Messonnier, director of CDC’s National Center for Immunization and Respiratory Diseases. “Speed is important, but more important in this situation is making sure that the lab results are correct.”

Messonnier said the CDC will manufacture and issue replacement reagents. She also reported increased demand for respirators and facemasks.
