No Device Shortages from COVID-19 Outbreak, FDA Says

The FDA said it is not aware of any device shortages connected to the outbreak of the novel coronavirus, although the agency has received reports of increased market demand and supply challenges for some personal protective equipment.

The agency is aware of 63 manufacturers representing 72 facilities in China that produce “essential medical devices,” that are at risk if there is a supply disruption.

While there are no shortages of these devices, FDA Commissioner Stephen Hahn said that several facilities have been adversely affected by the outbreak.
