Hahn Updates Senate on Drug Supply Chain as India Restricts Exports

March 11, 2020

FDA Commissioner Stephen Hahn told Congress that India is restricting exports of 13 active pharmaceutical ingredients (API) and the drug formulations made from them to protect its internal supply chain.

The APIs are paracetamol, tinidazole, metronidazole, acyclovir, vitamins B1, B6 and B 12, progesterone, chloramphenicol, erythromycin salts, neomycin, clindamycin salts, and ornidazole.

Hahn told the Senate committee on Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions that the agency had not determined whether the APIs from India are used in the 20 drugs the agency identified as being at-risk for shortages.
