More Ventilator Meds in Shortage as COVID-19 Increases Demand

Drugmakers are reporting shortages of two drugs needed for ventilator patients as demand increases due to COVID-19, propofol and dexmedetomidine.

Multiple drugmakers reported the shortages, with some expecting to restore supply as early as this month, while others said it could take until September or October.

The shortages are primarily in COVID-19 hot spots. Areas that are not currently hot spots likely have adequate supplies, but they may not have sufficient inventory for a surge in COVID-19. — Jordan Williams
