Abbott Launches Antibody Test for COVID-19

Abbott has launched its third COVID-19 diagnostic, a laboratory-based blood test that will ship in the U.S. this week.

The test detects an antibody produced by the immune systems of patients infected with the coronavirus. It is designed for use with the company’s Architect i1000SR and i2000SR laboratory platforms, as well as its Alinity analyzer.

Abbott said it will distribute 4 million tests this month and will increase U.S. distribution to 20 million tests per month in June.
