Health Canada Allows Remote Use of Abbott’s Glucose Reader During Pandemic
April 28, 2020
Health Canada has cleared Abbott’s FreeStyle Libre glucose monitor for remote use by frontline healthcare workers in hospitals during the COVID-19 crisis.
The sensor is placed on the back of the patient’s arm and gives readings every minute to a smartphone or reader. The device doesn’t require a finger prick to evaluate glucose levels.
The sensors will help limit healthcare workers’ exposure to COVID-19, said Marie-Flore Nabor, Abbott’s general manager of diabetes care in Canada.
