Hahn, Fauci and Redfield In Quarantine After Exposure to COVID-19

May 11, 2020

Three of the nation’s top medical experts heading up the nation’s response to COVID-19 are now in quarantine after being exposed to the coronavirus.

FDA Commissioner Stephen Hahn is in self-quarantine for two weeks after coming into contact with a person who tested positive for COVID-19, the agency confirmed on Saturday.

Also in quarantine are Anthony Fauci, director of the NIH’s National Institutes for Allergies and Infectious Disease, and Centers for Disease Control and Prevention Director Robert Redfield.

The three did not name the infected person linked to their decisions to self-quarantine. But all three are members of the White House Coronavirus Task Force led by Vice President Mike Pence, whose press secretary Katie Miller tested positive for the virus last week.

In an email to agency staff, Hahn said that he was tested for COVID-19 and the test came back negative. He said he feels “perfectly healthy” and will be working from home.

Fauci is in a “modified self-quarantine” and primarily working from home but he may go to his NIH office where he will work alone.  Redfield is also “feeling fine” and working from home for the next two weeks. — Jordan Williams
