Stanford Medicine Studies Interferon-Lambda for Treating COVID-19

May 15, 2020

Researchers at Stanford Medicine are testing interferon-lambda as a possible treatment for mild COVID-19 cases.

The trial in approximately 120 newly diagnosed participants is evaluating whether the drug can help patients recover without the need for hospitalization.

Previous laboratory research and animal studies suggest that interferon-lambda may help control viruses, such as influenza and severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS). Early results from the trail are expected within eight weeks.
