European CE Certificates Up 50 Percent

May 26, 2020

TEAM-NB, the European Association of Notified Bodies for medical devices, has reported that CE certificates spiked by nearly 50 percent last year.

In its annual survey, Team-NB found that there were 7,419 new CE certificates issued in 2019 compared to 4,992 in 2018, marking the highest number issued in a single year.

Team-NB said the increase in CE certificates reflects the aim of the devicemaker industry to renew their certificates under existing laws to avoid the need to certify under the new Medical Device Regulation (MDR), which goes into effect in May 2021.
