Medtronic’s Brain Signal-Tracking Neurostimulation System Approved

June 26, 2020

The FDA has approved Medtronic’s Percept PC deep-brain stimulation system, the first of its kind able to track patient-specific brain signals during treatment.

The small pacemaker-like device is implanted under the skin of the chest or abdomen to record brain signals while delivering therapy to patients with neurological disorders related to Parkinson’s disease, essential tremor, dystonia, epilepsy or obsessive-compulsive disorder, allowing for a more tailored and informed treatment.

Physicians can use the device to track patient brain signals to deliver more personalized, data-driven neurostimulation treatment, the company said.
