Australia Delays Device Reforms Due to COVID-19

July 7, 2020

Australia’s Therapeutic Goods Administration is delaying planned medical device reforms because of the COVID-19 crisis.

The agency proposes to push back implementation of new regulations governing medical device software and personalized medical devices from Aug. 25 to Feb. 25, 2021.

Reclassification of various devices, such as spinal implants and devices intended for use in direct contact with the heart, the central circulatory system or the central nervous system, would also be delayed until Nov. 25, 2021.
