Becton Dickinson Gets $42 Million HHS Contract for Injection Device

July 9, 2020

HHS’ Biomedical Advanced Research and Development Authority (BARDA) has granted Becton Dickinson a $42 million contract to manufacture hundreds of millions of syringes and needles for delivery of COVID-19 vaccines.

The company’s Nebraska facility will use the funding to create new manufacturing lines that will mass produce the devices for use in the federal government’s vaccination program.

The new production capacity is expected to be ready within a year. In the meantime, the company will supply 50 million needles and syringes by the end of 2020 using its existing manufacturing capacity.
