Ascend Performance Seeks Clearance COVID-19-Protective Surgical Masks

Ascend Performance Materials is seeking 510(k) marketing clearance from the FDA for two surgical masks that feature technology designed to protect against the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus.

The company’s nanofiber and microfiber nonwoven surgical masks that use its antiviral Acteev Biodefend technology that offers protection against microbes, fluid splatter and airborne particles.

Ascend said the technology has been shown in laboratory tests to deactivate the coronavirus and other pathogens such as the H1N1 influenza virus and E. coli bacteria.
