Indian Developers Begin Human Trials of Two COVID-19 Vaccines

July 16, 2020

Two clinical trials of potential COVID-19 vaccines got under way in India this week.

Ahmedabad-based Zydus Cadila launched a phase 1/2 trial of its plasmid DNA-based vaccine candidate, ZyCoV-D, and Hyderabad-based Bharat Biotech began a study of Covaxin, an inactivated vaccine derived from a strain of the SARS-CoV-2 virus.

Both vaccines will be evaluated for safety, tolerability, and immunogenicity in more than 1,000 participants at multiple sites.
