U.S. to Pay Nearly $2 Billion for Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 Vaccine

July 23, 2020

HHS and the Department of Defense have entered a $1.95 billion agreement with Pfizer and BioNTech for large-scale production and nationwide delivery of 100 million doses of their COVID-19 vaccine.

The contract is the largest to date under Operation Warp Speed, the U.S. government initiative that aims to secure 300 million doses of a COVID-19 vaccine by the end of the year.

Under the agreement, Pfizer would deliver the 100 million doses to locations nationwide in the fourth quarter of 2020. The contract also allows the government to acquire an additional 500 million doses.
