July 31, 2020

Johnson and Johnson has begun a phase 1/2 trial of its COVID-19 vaccine Ad26.COV2.S in the United States and Belgium.

The trial will evaluate the vaccine candidate’s safety and immunogenicity in over 1,000 healthy adults ages 18 to 55, and ages 65 and older. The company is also planning a phase 2a study in the Netherlands, Spain and Germany and a phase 1 study in Japan.

J&J plans to begin phase 3 study in September to evaluate a single dose of the vaccine versus placebo.
