CytoSorbents Obtains HHS Funding for Plasma Adsorber

New Jersey-based CytoSorbents has been granted a $4.4 million contract by HHS to develop its  HemoDefend-BGA plasma and whole blood adsorber filter.

The filter is designed to provide “universal plasma” that can be given to patients regardless of their blood type. It also improves the safety of whole blood transfusions by removing anti-A and anti-B antibodies from the blood.

The HHS funding will go toward completing the filter’s design and required testing, the company said.
