George Washington University Earns EUA for COVID-19 Test

The FDA has granted George Washington University an Emergency Use Authorization (EUA) for a reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) test for detection of the SARS-CoV-2 virus.

Classified by the agency as a high-complexity test that requires specialized training and equipment, the diagnostic is designed to identify patients infected with the coronavirus using nasal and throat swabs.

The test is only authorized for use at the university’s public health laboratory, the FDA said.
