Medtronic Buys Up Manufacturer of Smart Insulin Pen

Medtronic has announced plans to acquire Companion Medical, manufacturer of the InPen, a Bluetooth-enabled insulin pen device.

The only FDA-cleared smart insulin pen system that includes a diabetes management app, the InPen will expand Medtronic’s presence in the diabetes market. The financial details of the deal were not disclosed.

Medtronic said it will combine the InPen with its own algorithms to deliver “dosing advice personalized to each individual.”
