Masimo Earns FDA Clearance for Pleth Variability Index

Masimo’s pleth variability index (PVi) software has received FDA clearance as a noninvasive indicator of fluid responsiveness for adults on mechanical ventilation.

The index, which measures the dynamic changes in blood flow that occur during a patient’s respiratory cycle, can be used on Masimo’s SET pulse oximetry and rainbow Pulse CO-Oximetry devices.

The automated measurements are performed using a noninvasive pulse oximeter probe and are displayed as a continuous readout on a monitor.
